How You Can Help: Big and Small Ways to Make a Real Difference

A happy child is helped by physiotherapists with her care

At Altus Pacific Aid, we believe in the power of community, because behind every piece of equipment we send, every therapy session delivered, and every smile shared, there’s someone like you making it possible.

Whether you’re looking to make a one-off contribution, offer your time, or simply spread the word, there are so many ways you can help us continue our mission of delivering hands-on support to people with disabilities across the Pacific Islands.

Here are some of the most impactful ways you can get involved:

1. Donate to Help Ship Essential Equipment

Four volunteers work to construct an essential wheelchair

We collect donated equipment such as wheelchairs, standing and walking frames, positioning wedges, and other mobility aids. But getting these life-changing items from New Zealand to the Pacific Islands comes at a cost.

Your donation can help cover the shipping fees so that we can get this vital equipment to the families who need it most. Every dollar helps us deliver more support, faster.

2. Sponsor a Specific Piece of Equipment

Would you like to fund something tangible? You can choose to donate towards a specific item for a specific client:

  • A walking frame so a child can explore outdoors and play with friends

  • A standing frame to help build strength and and keep muscles stretched

  • A custom wheelchair to give someone greater independence and comfort in their home and community

  • A shower chair to make bathing safer and more dignified for someone with mobility challenges

  • Wound care consumables for adults with spinal cord injury to treat and prevent pressure areas

Every item you fund has a direct, life changing impact on a real person and we’ll keep you updated on where your donation goes and the real-life impact it makes.

3. Fundraise on Our Behalf

Got a birthday coming up? Running a marathon? Hosting a morning tea?

You can turn any event into a fundraiser to support our work.

Ideas include:

  • Hosting a quiz night, bake sale, or garage sale

  • Setting up a Givealittle or other fundraising page

  • Asking for donations instead of gifts for birthdays or weddings

We can help with resources and info to make your fundraiser a success.

4. Become a Regular Giver

Regular monthly donations—no matter the size—help us plan ahead and respond quickly when needs arise. Even $10 a month adds up and goes directly towards frontline support for our clients and the communities we serve.

5. Share Our Work

Spreading the word is powerful. If you believe in what we do, tell someone!

You can help by:

  • Sharing our posts on Facebook and Instagram

  • Telling your friends, family, or workplace about our work

  • Inviting others to subscribe to our newsletter or follow our journey

  • Displaying our flier at your workplace, clinic, or school

Word of mouth has brought us some of our most dedicated volunteers and donors.

6. Donate Equipment or Supplies

If you’re based in New Zealand and have access to mobility or therapy equipment that’s no longer in use, we’d love to hear from you. We accept:

  • Wheelchairs

  • Walking and standing frames

  • Orthotics (splints, wedges, supports)

  • Shower chairs

We especially welcome support from schools, therapists, and clinics with surplus or gently used resources. We also love to build connections with families who may have a disabled child in New Zealand who are happy to donate equipment or resources which are no longer suitable for their child.

7. Volunteer Your Time or Skills

Are you a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Nurse, Builder or someone with a passion for helping others? We’re always looking for volunteers to join us on future trips to the Pacific Islands.

It’s an opportunity to:

  • Make a tangible difference in people’s lives

  • Work alongside local field workers and families

  • Immerse yourself in the culture of the communities we serve

Can’t travel? You can still help! We sometimes need assistance with admin, promotion, equipment collection, or grant applications right here in New Zealand. Please get in touch!

8. Corporate and Community Partnerships

Are you part of a business, school, or community group looking to give back? We welcome partnerships of all kinds—from donation drives and pro bono services to event sponsorship and long-term support. If you are a business who can support one of the following we would love to hear from you:

  • Printing: We frequently run courses for families and field workers in the Pacific Islands including the Carer to Carer program. This often involves lots of printing of images and booklets for participants to use. We can’t always rely on the internet and having hard copies means our courses can run smoothly.

  • Storage and Shipping: We store and ship equipment regularly to the Islands and this is often at great cost. If you can help with either of these we would love to hear from you?

Let’s work together to create something meaningful.

Every Bit Counts

Whether you can give time, money, skills, or simply share our story, you are part of this mission. Your support enables us to continue providing dignity, mobility, and opportunity to people who are often overlooked.

If you’d like to get involved, have ideas, or just want to learn more, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
